FAQ

Q: It's only a small crack. Can I wait to have it repaired?
A: No, you shouldn't wait. The windshield serves as an important structural element of your car. If the structural integrity of your windshield is weakened due to untended damage, it will not provide optimal protection in an accident.
Q. What's the difference between glass in a windshield and other window glass?
A: Auto glass is designed for optimum safety in the event of a crash. Windshields are made of laminated safety glass. Laminated safety glass is made from two pieces of glass with a layer of vinyl sandwiched in between. It will stay intact in a collision. The side and rear windows are made of tempered glass. Tempered glass has been treated to make it much stronger than other glass of the same thickness. If it breaks, it is designed to shatter into small pieces.
Q. Why do I need a certified technician?
A: Because the windshield is an integral part of a car's safety system, repair or replacement work should be done by experienced professionals, such as New York Auto Glass. We are familiar with many different types of vehicles and the best techniques/products to use for a particular job.
Q: What will New York Auto Glass most likely ask me when I call?
A: Here are some the questions and information that you can expect to give:
  • Describe the damage or problem that you have.
  • Provide the make, model, and year of your vehicle.
  • Define what type of replacement glass you want, Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) or aftermarket.
  • Explain where you want to have the work done. In shop or mobile service?
Q. How long will it take to repair/replace my windshield?
A: The length of service may vary on several factors. A small crack or ding may only take about 30 minutes to repair.
For a complete windshield replacement, the following factors must be considered in the repair time:
  • Adhesives used
  • The thoroughness of your technician
  • Safe Drive Time - This is the amount of time your vehicle must sit before you can legally drive again after a windshield replacement.
Q. What is an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) replacement windshield?
A: An OEM replacement windshield is produced from original equipment-style tooling. This type of windshield will have the same appearance of your car's original windshield and will fit properly in the window frame, making noise and leakage problems less likely to happen.
